CAIRO – 14 November 2023: Fulfilling the request of reporters to comment on the Israeli finance minister's statements considering the voluntary displacement of Gaza residents the most convenient humanitarian solution, Minister of Foreign Affairs Sameh Shokry said Tuesday that the recent period witnessed a fluidity of irresponsible statements by Israeli officials and that violate international law.
Minister Shokry added that the statement reflects the policy adopted by the Israeli government and that any attempt to justify the displacement of Palestinians is rejected by Egypt and the international community.
The Egyptian minister criticized talking about displacement as if it was happening in a voluntary way, and not as a consequence of the deliberate military targeting of civilians, siege, and famine in the Strip. He added that the purpose is creating harsh circumstances that would push citizens to leave their homes labelling the situation a crime.
The minister reiterated Egypt's stance that firmly rejects the forced displacement of Palestinians, and the deliberate obstruction of the delivery of humanitarian aid and essential services. He also noted that Egypt would keep supporting the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on the borders of June 4, 1967 having as capital Eastern Jerusalem.
