CAIRO - 10 November 2023: Hundreds of journalists signed an open letter criticizing their newspapers and magazines over “dehumanizing rhetoric that has served to justify [the] ethnic cleansing of Palestinians” in their coverage of the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip.

The Letter has been signed by 750 journalists, independent and from mainstream and local media organizations, Washington Post reported on November 9, noting that there is a division among reporters and journalists in the newsrooms.

“This is our job: to hold power to account. Otherwise, we risk becoming accessories to genocide,” the open letter read.

Writers who signed the letter include reporters at the Washington Post, Los Angeles Times, New York Magazine, Jewish Currents, Huck Magazine, Bloomberg, and the Guardian.

Alex Press, one of the letter signatories said on her X (formerly Twitter): “Gazan journalists are facing an unprecedented and rising death toll, Western newsrooms are directly benefiting from their work on-the-ground, and if we cannot call for their protection — that is perverse,' he said.”

It was reported by some US journalists that the Washington Post “has taken down an editorial cartoon about the Israel-Gaza war, after criticism that it was racist and dehumanizing towards Palestinians.”

Also, New York Times Writer Jazmine Hughes was forced to resign after signing an open letter supporting the Palestinians and against Israel.
