CAIRO – 10 November 2023: Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and Qatar’s Emir Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani confirmed on Friday rejection of the forced displacement of the Palestinian people.

In a meeting in Cairo, President Sisi and Sheikh Tamim also affirmed rejection of attempts to liquidate the Palestinian cause at the expense of the Palestinian people and countries in the region, the Egyptian Presidency said in a statement.

The leaders discussed best ways to protect innocent civilians in Gaza and stop the bloodshed, reviewing intensified efforts aimed to reach ceasefire in Gaza and ensure sustainable and adequate humanitarian aid access.

They affirmed continuing consultations to halt escalation in Gaza, relieve the suffering of the civilians and stop the bloodshed, leading to the establishment of a Palestinian independent state in accordance with the international legitimacy references.

They stressed that this should achieve fair peace in the region.

Egypt and Qatar have been working to pave the way for a deal that includes implementing humanitarian truce in Gaza and exchanging captives.

An Egyptian-Qatari mediation late in October resulted in the release of two Israeli captives Nurit Yitzhak and Yocheved Lifshitz for humanitarian and health reasons.

On 7 October, Hamas launched a surprise attack on Israel, killing hundreds of Israelis and taking around 240 captives.

The Israeli retaliatory war has killed around 11,000 Palestinians and injured more than 26,000 others, according to the Palestinian Health Ministry on Thursday.
