CAIRO – 8 November 2023: The Palestine Red Crescent society (PRCS) announced received 81 humanitarian aid trucks from the Egyptian Red Crescent on Tuesday.
This brings the total number of trucks that have entered the strip since 21 October to 650, averaging around 36 trucks daily, the PRCS said in a statement.
The aid delivered included food, water, relief aid, medical equipment and medications, the PRCS said, adding that Israel has not yet allowed the entry of fuel to the strip.
Egypt has been delivering aid to Gaza since 21 October through the Rafah border crossing coming from many countries around the world as well as from international organizations, UN agencies and Egyptian NGOs.
The Rafah crossing has been also open for the evacuation of seriously injured people in Gaza as well as foreigners and dual nationals over the past week.
Since last Wednesday, Egypt received hundreds of foreigners, dual nationals and injured Palestinians.
For the injured, Egypt has been treating them mainly in North Sinai hospitals, including Al-Arish and Bir El-Abd hospitals. The injured are also transferred as needed to Port Said, Ismailia, and Cairo hospitals.
Minister of Health Khaled Abdel Ghaffar affirmed that the North Sinai hospitals are highly prepared to receive the injured Palestinians and provide them with proper medical service.
In a press conference in Al-Arish early this week, Abdel Ghaffar said Egypt receives 40-50 injured Palestinians every day and is capable to receive much more on a daily basis.
Most of the wounded Palestinians transferred from Gaza sustained serious injuries, the minister said, noting that at least 60% of them are children and women.
Some of the injured lost limbs, while some others had injuries in the brain, eyes, and lungs by shrapnel, the minister explained.
The non-stop Israeli war against the Gaza Strip since 7 October has left more than 10,000 people dead, mainly women and children, and has injured tens of thousands of individuals.
The Israeli strikes and besiege have also caused many of the hospitals in Gaza to go out of service.
