CAIRO – 20 July 2017: A report by the Central Administration for Land Protection issued a report indicated that 2,734,137 violations occurred on 77,800 feddans (1 feddan = 1,025 acre) of fertile lands in the Nile Valley and Delta starting January 2011 till July 2017.
Violations vary from concrete constructions to soil dredging as it is used in manufacturing red bricks.
The number of violations removed since the launching of the campaign that started last May is 399,429 on 22,601 feddans.
There have been recurrent inspection campaigns on agricultural lands in all governorates to ensure that violations do not occur and that they would be removed once they occur.
Citizens also can report any violations to the Central Operations Chamber at the Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation on 0237499385.
All violators are reported to the Public Prosecution to take legal measures.
Agricultural land owners have been building residential blocks on fertile lands, and dredging the soil to achieve big revenues because of the increasing costs of cultivation, which are barely covered by revenues.
