Egyptian FM, WFP executive director discuss fulfilling humanitarian needs in Gaza

CAIRO – 5 November 2023: Minister of Foreign Affairs Sameh Shokry met Sunday with Executive Director of the World Food Programme Cindy H. McCain to tackle the increasing humanitarian needs in Gaza Strip and ways to fulfill them immediately.

The minister displayed the efforts Egypt deployed to deliver aid, coming from both local entities as well as from foreign countries. Yet, he also highlighted the logistic obstacles imposed by the Israeli side, including the recurrent shelling of the border crossing.  

On her side, McCain expressed appreciation for the Egyptian role in coordinating with the UN organizations to assist the Palestinian people. She also said she looked forward to further cooperation with Egypt to accomplish its vision on food security and sustainable development.

The WFP executive director was received Saturday by President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi at Al Itihadiyah Presidential Palace as they conferred over aid to Gaza and joint cooperation.
