CAIRO – 29 October 2023: Secretary-General of the Arab league Ahmed Aboul Gheit, said that Israel is implementing the scorched-earth policy through intentionally targeting water stations and hospitals in the Gaza Strip.
Speaking at the opening session of the sixth edition of Cairo Water Week (CWW) which kicked off on Sunday, Abul Gheit added that the severity of the destruction of basic facilities indicates a desire to wreak havoc and make what remains of the Palestinian territories uninhabitable.
Israel aims to target the infrastructure in Palestine, without taking into consideration the international humanitarian law, he further said.
The Arab League (AL) recognizes the severity of such practices which pose a threat to the Arab water security, he went on to say.
He noted that the sixth edition of CWW is considered the most prominent water event in the Arab region thanks to the efforts of the Egyptian government, which has worked to develop it and enrich its discussions since its launch in 2018. He praised its outputs that are presented periodically within the work of the Arab Ministerial Water Council because of its impact in enhancing the process of joint Arab action in the field of water.
