CAIRO – 29 October 2023: Head of the Doctors Syndicate Osama Abdel Hay told press Sunday that 2,000 of members volunteered to work in Gaza, and that 800 had already received training with the Egyptian Red Crescent.
Abdel Hay elaborated that the syndicate communicated with the Palestinian side, and learnt that the specializations needed are those of surgery, orthopedics, anesthesiology, cardiology, and neurology.
The Egyptian Doctors Syndicate opened on October 21 the registration for physicians who wish to volunteer at Gaza hospitals. The volunteers have been divided into groups, and the start of training was on October 23.
WHO Representative in Egypt Dr. Naeema Al-Gasseer stated in a phone-in later on Saturday that 64 percent of healthcare facilities in Gaza Strip had gone out of service and that seven major hospitals had received evacuation notice.
In its last situation report released on Friday, the UNRWA highlighted that eight out of its 22 health centers in Gaza are still operating in the Middle Area, Khan Younis, and Rafah, and that provided 3,950 patients with basic medical services on October 26. In addition, the organization has set up 95 mobile medical units and medical teams, which treated 9,900 individuals in shelters.
