CAIRO – 28 October 2023: In the midst of the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas, billionaire tech magnate Elon Musk has extended an offer to provide his Starlink satellite internet service to humanitarian aid organizations in Gaza.
The Gaza Strip, under the control of Hamas, has experienced a disruption in internet and telephone communications due to intensified airstrikes and a ground offensive conducted by the Israeli military.
Consequently, civilians have been unable to seek assistance and aid organizations facing challenges in communication.
US activist and representative for New York's 14th congressional district Alexandria Ocacio-Cortez took to X on Friday, emphasizing that cutting off communication to a population of 2.2 million is “unacceptable.”
She further highlighted the endangerment of journalists, medical professionals, humanitarian efforts, and innocent individuals, questioning the defense of such actions.
Additionally, she noted that the United States has historically condemned this practice.
Ambassador Husam Zomlot, Head of Palestinian Mission to the UK, said yesterday that the telecommunications and internet have been cut in Gaza, saying he failed for hours to reach his family in the strip.
I have been trying to reach my family in Gaza for hours with no success. All telecommunications and internet have been cut, while Israeli strikes is literally destroying Gaza from air land and sea. How many more innocent people: children, parents and grandparents will be murdered…

On Friday, Gaza saw the heaviest bombardment since the start of the Israeli war on the strip on 7 October, according to Palestinian reports, with the Israeli army saying that its "ground forces are expanding" their operations in the Gaza Strip.
The Israeli strikes over the past three weeks has killed more than 7,000 people, wounded thousands of civilians and displaced around 1.4 million others.
