Egypt, Malaysia discuss economic cooperation, de-escalation in Gaza

CAIRO – 23 October 2023: President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi received Monday Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim at Al Itihadiyah Presidential Palace to discuss bolstering cooperation in the economic realm, trade, and joint investments, mainly in the sectors of manufacturing, ICT, infrastructure, and food security.

The two chiefs of state also exchanged views on regional and international affairs of mutual interest, including the issue of terrorism. The Malaysian prime minister valued the efforts exerted by Egypt in that regard, especially through the role of Al Azhar establishment.

President Sisi and Prime Minister Ibrahim conferred over developments in the region, particularly the ongoing military escalation in Gaza Strip. In that respect, Egypt and Malaysia agreed on the necessity of concerting efforts in order to achieve de-escalation and pacification, as well as providing protection to Palestinian civilians.

 

The two sides also stressed the salience of the safe, continuous and immediate flow of humanitarian aid into Gaza. In that context, the Malaysian prime minister commended related Egyptian efforts.

 

The two leaders expressed concern about attempts to terminate the Palestinian Cause through the forced displacement of Gaza residents, stressing that the only solution to the current crisis is the two-state solution.
