Egyptian FM to attend UN Security Council's emergency meeting on Gaza

CAIRO – 23 October 2023: Minister of Foreign Affairs Sameh Shokry is heading Monday to New York to attend the United Nations Security Council's ministerial meeting - called for by Brazil - on the ongoing events in the Middle East.

The minister will deliver a speech – at the meeting scheduled for Tuesday – displaying Egypt's vision and assessment of the precarious military escalation in Gaza. Egypt will also demand the immediate halting of the Israeli aggression against Palestinians.

The minister will further present the efforts deployed by Egypt to end the bloodshed, secure protection for civilians in the strip, deliver humanitarian aid sustainably, and contain the conflict. Egypt will also warn about the risks of the expansion of the conflict into other areas, and going out of control.
