CAIRO – 22 October 2023: The Egyptian Armed forces announced that the Israeli occupation forces accidentally hit an Egyptian watchtower in the Egyptian side near the Rafah border crossing with the Gaza Strip.

"During the ongoing clashes in the Gaza Strip, Sunday, 10/22/2023, one of the Egyptian border watchtowers was accidentally hit by fragments of a shell from an Israeli tank," said the Egyptian Armed forces Spokesperson in a statement.

"The incident resulted in minor injuries to some border watchmen," he added.

"The Israeli side expressed its regret immediately over the unintentional incident, and an investigation is being conducted to know circumstances of the incident," the army added.

Avichay Adraee, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) Spokesperson for Arab media, said on his X (formerly Twitter) that an IDF “regrets over the incident” after “an IDF tank accidentally fired and hit an Egyptian position near the border in the Karem Abu Salem area.” He added that “incident is under investigation.”
