Cairo – 18 October 2023: Pope Tawadros II of Alexandria and Patriarch of Saint Mark Diocese has vehemently denounced the ongoing killings and destruction in Occupied Palestinian Territories.
"It's a totally asymmetrical war. Our hearts are full of pain over what's going on in Gaza, so many people have been killed, injured, and made homeless," deplored the pontiff in his weekly sermon on Wednesday.
"In the name of the Coptic Church, we condemn these brutal acts," the pope said, citing the Israeli occupation's bombardment of Al Ahli Baptist Hospital in central Gaza yesterday, which claimed the lives of hundreds of innocent displaced civilians who were seeking shelter.
He described the vicious attack on the hospital, the largest healthcare facility serving the people of Gaza, as a "crime beyond imagination"
Egypt’s Al Azhar called on the Arab and Islamic Nations to support Palestinians with everything they’ve got in the face ‘an enemy who has lost conscience, all feeling and turned his back on humanity.”
Al-Azhar also stressed that the Arab nation must reconsider its dependence on ‘the arrogant Euro-American West’.
Al-Azhar addressed Palestinians saying that they must trust that ‘the West, with all its military capabilities and destructive machines, is weak and afraid of meeting you.”
On Tuesday, Israel bombed Gaza Baptist Hospital where thousands of displaced Palestinians took refuge, killing up to 500 people.
Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas declared three days of mourning, and ordered that flags be flown at half-mast in mourning for the victims of the Israeli aggression on al-Ahli hospital and for all the people killed.
Palestinian Minister of Health said that the bombing of Gaza Baptist Hospital is a ‘genocide’.
‘We appeal to the international community to protect the Palestinian people’ the minster said.
She added that the health sector in Gaza is on the verge of collapse, noting that services are running out and Israel has been deliberately targeting hospitals.
Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah al Sisi condemned the ‘deliberate Israeli bombing’ for Gaza Baptist Hospital which left 500 civilian dead according to the Palestinian ministry of Health.
On his official Facebook account, Sisi said that he has been following ‘with deep sorrow the Israeli bombing of Al Ahly Baptist Hospital in Gaza Strip, which resulted in hundreds of innocent victims, wounded and injured Palestinian citizens in Gaza.’
“Therefore, I condemn ‘in the strongest terms’ this deliberate bombing, which is considered a clear violation of international law and the provisions of international legitimacy and humanity.
I emphasize Egypt’s stance that rejects the continuation of these practices against civilians, demanding its immediate cessation.” President Sisi wrote.
