Egyptian House of Representatives to hold emergency plenary session on Gaza crisis

CAIRO – 18 October 2023: Speaker of the House of Representatives Hanafi al-Gebaly called for convening an emergency plenary session Thursday to discuss the repercussions of the circumstances in Gaza Strip.

Gebaly participated in the 35th Emergency Meeting of the Arab Parliaments Union where he stressed that the shelling of Al Ahli Baptist in Gaza Tuesday, incurring the death of hundreds of civilians, highlighted the extend of the criminality of the Israeli occupation.  

The Speaker added that "such crimes must be a bigger drive to accomplish the legitimate dream of an independent Palestinian State having as capital Eastern Jerusalem."

Gebaly renewed Egypt's "rejection to all calls of displacement targeted at Gaza residents, as that would spread instability in the region." He also stipulated that "Egypt's borders are a red line that can be neither crossed nor compromised."
