CAIRO - 17 October 2023: Uzbekistan's Ambassador to Cairo, Mansurbek Kylychev, said that his country is keen on consolidating the ties between Samarkand and Alexandria, especially since these cities carry central importance in world history.

He expressed his hope that the direct ties between the cities of the two countries would give new impetus to the development of cooperation in the field of tourism, investment and cultural exchange.

This came while he was commenting on his country's hosting of the 25th session of the General Assembly of the World Tourism Organization in the city of Samarkand from October 16-20. In the same context, Ambassador Kylychev said that Samarkand is the gateway to tourism in Uzbekistan.

He added that the city hosted many large events in recent years, most notably the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit, which was organized last year in the old city, considering that organizing international events in Samarkand confirms its historical importance.

The President of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirzayev, in his speech Monday, at the opening of the General Assembly session of the World Tourism Organization, proposed establishing a council for historic cities for tourism, considering that such a platform would allow increasing the flow of tourists to cultural heritage sites, exchanging best practices in preserving historical monuments, and developing recommendations.
