CAIRO - 17 October 2023: The National Elections Authority (NEA), headed by Judge Hazem Badawy, Vice President of the Court of Cassation, announced Tuesday, the beginning of receiving objections from candidates for the 2024 presidential elections against the candidacy of others, while listing their reasons for their objections. 
 
According to the authority, the objection period will continue until Wednesday.
 
The National Elections Authority confirmed that, according to the law, anyone who applies for candidacy may object to the authority for any other candidacy application, stating the reasons for his objection, following the announcement of the initial list of candidates that was announced Monday.
 
The period for examining candidacy applications and adjudicating objections was set from October 19 to 21, and the excluded candidate would be notified of the exclusion decision and its reasons on October 22.
 
From the opening of nominations on October 5 to October 14, a total of four candidates submitted to the National Elections Authority their nomination papers for the presidential elections.
 
They are: candidate Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, the current president of Egypt, candidate Farid Zahran, head of the Egyptian Democratic Party, candidate Abdel-Sanad Yamama, head of the Wafd Party, and candidate Hazem Omar, head of the Republican People’s Party.
 
After completing the legal procedures for candidacy, the candidate chooses an electoral symbol from among 15 symbols that have been identified, which are the symbols of the star, the sun, the lion, the horse, the eagle, the rooster, the scale, the plane, the watch, the palm tree, the boat, the umbrella, the telephone, the glasses, and the ladder.
 
The final list of candidates' names and electoral symbols will be announced on November 9, which is the same date for the launch of electoral propaganda for each candidate to present his electoral program.
 
It is noteworthy that the National Elections Authority had announced the timetable for the procedures and dates of the presidential elections, which included opening the door for nominations on October 5 for a period of ten days ending on October 14, with the voting process for Egyptians abroad taking place on December 1, 2, and 3, and inside the country on December 10, 11, and 12.
