Mada Masr officials to be investigated over alleged false news

CAIRO - 15 October 2023: Officials at the “Mada Masr” news website will be investigated by the Bureau of the Supreme Council for Media Regulation over alleged false news. 

In an “urgent meeting” Sunday, the council said it would notify the attorney-general if the violation is proven.

The council received numerous complaints accusing the site of publishing “inflammatory reports to harm Egyptian national security” from anonymous, “fictitious” sources about Egypt allowing the entry of some displaced Palestinians from the Gaza Strip. 

Publishing such news is against media codes of honor, professionalism, and credibility.

The complaints emphasized that Egypt has affirmed its historical and consistent position of not allowing the abort of the Palestinian cause or the displacement of Palestinians from their lands. Such statements were made by the president and the foreign minister and other officials.

Egypt has repeatedly said a Palestinian state is the solution, and not a single Egyptian official spoke about displacement, which Egypt categorically rejects.
