CAIRO – 10 October 2023: Secretary-General of the United Nations, António Guterres, thanked on Wednesday President Abdel Fattah El Sisi for Egypt's role and its esteemed efforts to facilitate the arrival of humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip.

During a phone call, Guterres expressed his keenness to continue consulting with the President regarding developments pertinent to the escalation in the Gaza Strip and the military confrontations between the Palestinians and Israelis, in light of the rapid developments posing a threat to regional stability.

Both sides reviewed the ongoing contacts and action at the international and regional levels to restore calm and reduce tension, stressing the importance of avoiding the expansion of the conflict, and allowing room for diplomatic efforts to protect civilians and to prevent further deterioration of the humanitarian situation.

The Palestinian Ministry of Health announced on Wednesday that the number of deaths and injuries recorded 1,055 and 5,184, respectively, including 23 and 130 in the West Bank.

The Israeli Ministry of Health has earlier announced that the number of injured at hospitals amounted to 3,007, including 373 in critical conditions. Also, 1,000 were killed, and between 100 and 150 fell hostages in the hands of Hamas.

Hamas' Qassam Brigades launched Saturday an offensive on Israeli settlements on the occupied lands by firing 5,000 missiles in 20 minutes, invoking airstrikes on Gaza Strip and incurring scores of casualties on both sides as confrontations have not ceased until present.
