Egyptian president discusses cooperation with Speaker of the South Korean General Assembly

CAIRO – 9 October 2023: President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi received Monday Speaker of the South Korean General Assembly Kim Jin-pyo to hold talks on identifying more areas of joint cooperation, particularly in the economic sector.

The Speaker of the South Korean General Assembly noted that President Sisi's 2016 visit to Seoul contributed to the flow of more Korean investments into Egypt, which had been experiencing rapid developmental growth.

The talks also included expanding collaboration in the parliamentary framework, and in localizing the industries of automotives and green energy. Further, President Sisi and the South Korean Speaker exchanged views on regional and international developments, mainly the current Israeli-Palestinian military escalation.

There was congruence on the necessity to accomplish de-escalation to preserve regional stability and security. In a related context, President Sisi stipulated that any attempts to accomplish a long-term settlement of the Palestinian Cause must center on the two-state solution.

The meeting was attended by Speaker of the Egyptian House of Representatives Abdel Fatah al-Gebaly, a number of Korean parliamentarian, and South Korean ambassador.
