CAIRO – 8 October 2023: Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and his Palestinian counterpart, Mahmoud Abbas, stressed that achieving sustainable stability in the region requires reaching a fair and comprehensive solution to the Palestinian cause.
This settlement has to be based on the two-state solution in accordance with international legitimacy resolutions, Sisi and Abbas agreed in a phone call on Sunday to discuss the current ongoing security and military escalation between the Israeli and Palestinian sides.
Sisi and Abbas underlined the danger posed by the absence of a political horizon, highlighting the worsening situation that threatens the lives of civilians and the security and stability of the region.
The two leaders expressed extreme concerns over the continuation of the current escalation and its consequences, including the severe deterioration of the security and humanitarian situation.
Israeli towns continue to be engulfed in conflict as both Israel and Hamas fighters exchange fire.
This comes a day after Palestinian Hamas fighters breached the heavily fortified border from Gaza and entered nearby settlements, resulting in casualties and the capture of soldiers and civilians in an unprecedented attack.
According to various local media outlets, the death toll for Israelis has reached 700, while the injured totaled around 2,000.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, vowing severe retaliation, has officially declared the country to be at war.
He has also promised to demolish Hamas sites, urging Palestinians to leave Gaza despite the challenges they face in doing so.
Gaza health authorities have also reported hundreds of fatalities, as Israeli airstrikes persist without respite.
Israel's military claims to have eliminated over 400 Hamas gunmen as ongoing battles aim to remove militants from eight settlements within Israel.
Israeli residents residing near the border have been given a 24-hour notice to evacuate their homes.
The military has issued a stern warning that any terrorists or commanders found in houses will be targeted by Israeli forces.
