CAIRO – 5 October 2023: Potential Candidate in Presidential Election Farid Zahran, head of the Egyptian Democratic Party, completed on Thursday the medical examination procedures, necessary to complete nomination papers for the 2024 presidential elections.
In earlier statements, Zahran told Extra News that his programme "would center on political and economic reform aimed at enhancing the living conditions of people in a short period of time."
In a related context, President of Justice Party Abdel Moneim Emam declared the party's support to Zahran given "the weight of his work in the political field, and the alignment of his principles with the party's." Those pertain to "rendering Egypt a modern civil democratic state guaranteeing freedoms, and freedom of opinion, in the framework of building the state."
Zahran, held on Tuesday a press conference to announce his official announcement to run for the upcoming presidential elections.
“I don’t belong to the Muslim brotherhood group, and I’m not part of any kind of plays. I have a real program. I’m running for this election as a civilian, democratic alternative candidate capable of reforming the country’s current statues.” Zahran said.
During his speech at the conference, Zahran called on the state institutions to remain neutral during these elections in order to achieve fruitful and constructive cooperation between the regime and opposition parties.
Zahran, a prominent opposition politician, has obtained enough endorsement to run in the upcoming presidential elections as he secured last week 20 endorsements from House of Representatives’ members.
President Abdel Fattah Sisi announced, on Monday, his nomination for the Egyptian 2024 presidential election due to convene on December 10, 11, 12.
"As I have heeded the call of the Egyptians before, today, I answer their call again. I have decided to nominate myself to complete the dream in a new presidential term. I promise you, God willing, it will be a continuation of our joint efforts for the benefit of Egypt and its people,” President Sisi said at the closing session of a three-day conference “Story of A Homeland.”
