Egypt FM Shoukry discusses combatting illegal immigration with Dutch counterpart

CAIRO – 3 October 2023: Egypt’s Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry discussed on Tuesday with visiting Dutch Migration Minister Eric van der Burg ways of boosting bilateral cooperation in the immigration sphere.

During the meeting, the two sides stressed keenness on promoting cooperation between Egypt and the Netherlands, especially in the immigration field, said Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ahmed Abu Zeid.

They also agreed to broaden the scope of cooperation between the two countries, particularly in the domains of combatting illegal immigration and human trafficking, added the spokesman.

The meeting also dwelt on various aspects of cooperation between Egypt and the European Union (EU) in the immigration sphere, according to the spokesman.

Shoukry, meanwhile, was keen to shed light on Egypt's efforts in hosting about 9 million refugees and immigrants from the various nationalities.

The Dutch minister, for his part, lauded Egypt's outstanding efforts in the immigration spheres, especially in combating illegal immigration and controlling borders.

The Netherlands is keen on enhancing cooperation with Egypt in order to confront illegal immigration, he affirmed during the meeting.

At the end of the meeting, the two ministers accentuated the necessity of intensifying joint efforts to combat illegal immigration and deal with its various dimensions.
