Egypt establishes 1st factory for plasma derivatives in New Administrative Capital
CAIRO - 3 October 2023: The Egyptian Ministry of Health and Population said that Grifols Egypt For Plasma Derivatives is the product of a partnership between the Egyptian government and Grifols, the international leader in the field of plasma medicines for more than 110 years.
The Ministry of Health continued: This partnership is the first of its kind in the plasma industry, and Grifols Egypt is the first ever Egyptian member and exporter in the Global Plasma Protein Therapies Association.
Grifols Egypt is committed to developing the plasma medicine industry and achieving self-sufficiency in these medicines of high importance to the health system in Egypt.
"This project includes establishing and operating 20 plasma collection centers in various governorates of the Republic, 10 of which have been completed, and the factory and all facilities attached to it were established in a strategic location in the Medical City in the Administrative Capital," said the ministry.
The body replaces the donated plasma within 48 hours, and this treats more than 80 different diseases. The maximum frequency of plasma donation is once within two days, and no more than twice within a period of 7 days.
The donation process takes about 45 minutes. Plasma donation is considered a safe process and medicines derived from plasma cannot be manufactured from any other source.
