Judge Fawzi makes first comments as head of Sisi’s presidential campaign for December elections

CAIRO – 3 October 2023: Mahmoud Fawzi, the head of the Technical Committee for National Dialogue, commented on his assignment as the head of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi's election campaign, describing it as a “critical” mission.

President Sisi announced on Monday his plans to run for another term in the upcoming elections, scheduled for December, during the Story of a Homeland conference.

Sisi assigned Fawzi to lead his presidential campaign and to also be his legal representative at the campaign.

In his first comments following the decision, Fawzi said he has received the news with “great appreciation and pride.”

“I pray to Allah for success in carrying out this critical assignment and I thank the president for this valuable trust," Fawzi stated.

He emphasized the “immense sacrifices” introduced by President Sisi since 2014 and his sincere efforts as well as the real and comprehensive development witnessed by the country in various sectors.

Egyptians will cast their votes in the 2024 Presidential Elections on 10-12 December 2023 locally, while eligible voters living abroad will vote on 1-3 December.

Besides Sisi, several leading figures from renowned political parties have also announced plans to run for elections, including Head of Egypt’s liberal Constitution Party (Al-Dostour) Gameela Ismail.

Ahmed El-Fadaly, chairman of the Democratic Peace Party; former MP Ahmed Tantawi, the former head of Al-Karama (Dignity) Party; and Farid Zahran, head of the Egyptian Social Democratic Party, are also among the potential candidates.

Moreover, Head of Al-Wafd Party Abdel Sanad Yamama and Hazem Omar, head of the People’s Republican Party have secured the required endorsements to run in the elections.
