CAIRO – 25 September 2023: Egyptians flock to the recorders of deeds to document their endorsement for President Sisi to run for another 6-year term in the presidency.

 

The Egyptian National Election Authority has called upon Egyptians to vote in the presidential election on December 10,11, and 12, 2023 domestically.

 

Hundreds of citizens flocked to recorders of deeds in Cairo’s Badr City, Al-Shorouk, Al-Basateen, Boulaq Abu Al-Ela, Al-Sayyeda Zeinab, and Al-Zaytoun, to get endorsement requests for President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi, in order to submit them to the National Elections Authority, Youm7 reported.

Each presidential candidate shall garner 25,000 endorsements from at least 15 governorates, or at least 1,000 endorsements from each governorate nationwide

The window of nomination for those who want to run for the six-year presidential tenure opens in the period between October 5 to 14 from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., except for the last day (October 14), in which applications shall be received until 2:00 p.m.

Egyptians will cast their votes in the 2024 Presidential Elections on December 10, 11, and 12, 2023 domestically, while eligible voters living abroad will vote on December 1, 2, and 3, 2023, announced Head of the Egyptian National Election Authority (NEA) Walid Hamza in a press conference on Monday.

The initial list of candidates and the number of their supporters will be announced by the NEA and published in the state-owned Al-Akhbar and Al-Gomhuria newspapers.

Therefore, incumbent President Sisi, who has been serving since 2014, exceptionally has the right to run for a third term until 2030.

 

Sisi has not announced plans to run for elections to date. However, tens of political parties and unions have announced support for his potential candidacy, including the parliamentary majority party Mostaqbal Watan.
