CAIRO- 20 September 2023: Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry asserted Egypt’s interest in boosting development in Uganda and other African states.
Shoukry made the remarks during his meeting on Wednesday with Ugandan Foreign Minister Jeje Odongo on the fringes of the high-level meetings of the 78th session of the UN General Assembly held in New York.
The meeting touched on historical relations between Egypt and Uganda and the importance of working to promote cooperation and coordination on all issues of common interest, Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ahmed Abu Zeid said.
The two ministers discussed means of fostering regional cooperation especially in light of Kampala’s hosting of the upcoming summit of the Non-Aligned Movement and the Summit of the Group of 77 (G77) and China.
They agreed on the importance of maintaining the pace of communication and intensifying consultation on regional and international issues of mutual concern.
The meeting also touched on developments in the Sudanese arena.
Meanwhile, the Ugandan minister expressed pleasure at the meeting, underscoring his desire to visit Egypt as soon as possible.
Odongo commended bilateral relations, pointing out to Egypt’s continued support for development efforts in Uganda.
In this regard, he highlighted the technical support, training courses and scholarships offered by Egypt to the African nation in various areas.
He also noted that his country is looking forward to advancing cooperation with Egypt at all levels, particularly in the fields of agriculture and livestock production.
