CAIRO – 20 September 2023: Egypt condemned on Wednesday the Israeli escalation in the Palestinian city of Jenin that left six Palestinians dead and others wounded.
In a statement, the Foreign Ministry called on the Israeli authorities to opt for cooling off policy and avoid the implementation of collective punishment measures in Palestinian towns in a way that trigger off a vicious cycle of violence.
Such acts against Palestinians and their property violate international law and international legitimacy principles that provide for protection of civilians and legitimate rights of Palestinian people, the statement read.
The statement warned that such practices undermine regional and international endeavors aiming at reviving the peace process based on two-state solution.
Egypt renewed call on the international community to shoulder responsibility towards Palestinians and take immediate moves to de-escalate the situation.
The statement reiterated Egypt's commitment to backing Palestinian rights, especially their right to have an independent state with East Jerusalem as its capital.
