CAIRO – 19 September 2023: Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry on Tuesday discussed in a meeting with his Canadian counterpart Mélanie Joly different issues of common interest, notably the Sudanese crisis, the ongoing international economic challenges and global food security.
The meeting was held on the sidelines of the 78th session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA) in New York, said Spokesman for the Foreign Ministry Ahmed Abu Zeid.
Shoukry briefed Joly on Egypt's efforts to resolve the Sudanese crisis either through its contacts with different regional and international parties or through the path of Sudan's neighboring countries.
In this regard, Shoukry stated that Egypt has received about 310,000 Sudanese refugees to date.
The top Egyptian diplomat underlined that different world countries, including Canada, should contribute to addressing the negative economic impacts of successive global crises.
The Canadian foreign minister said her country is interested in responding to the food security problem and is willing to support Egypt's stance at international forums in this regard.
