CAIRO – 19 September 2023: Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry applauded Tuesday the growing volume of bilateral trade between Egypt and Croatia, which doubled to hit nearly $500 billion in 2022, thanks to Egypt's gas and ammonia exports.
During a meeting with Croatian Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Gordan Grlić Radman on the margins of the high-level meetings of the 78th session of the UN General Assembly in New York, Shoukry congratulated the Croatian official on his government's subsequent achievements towards European integration, the most recent of which was joining Europe's passport-free Schengen and the eurozone in January.
The ministers discussed arrangements for exchanging high-level visits, including a visit Shoukry will pay to Croatia for political talks in Zagreb, and another visit by the Croatian minister to Egypt to participate in the upcoming edition of Aswan Forum for Sustainable Peace and Development, according to Foreign Ministry Spokesam Ahmed Abu Zeid.
The meeting also took up coordination for supporting the nominations submitted by both countries to various international forums.
On that score, Shoukry thanked Croatia for its position in support of Egypt at international forums and highly praised the European state's stance regarding Ethiopia's controversial dam over the Blue Nile.
Meanwhile, Radman voiced his country's interest in boosting cooperation for food and energy security and making use of Croatia's capabilities in the energy domain after the country became one of Europe's energy hubs.
