Egypt, China strategic partners, Chinese Ambassador in Cairo

CAIRO – 18 September 2023: Chinese Ambassador in Cairo Liao Liqiang said on Sunday Egypt and China are friends and strategic partners as relations under President Abdel Fattah El Sisi and President Xi Jinping were developed to become comprehensive strategic partnership.

Speaking at a ceremony marking the 74th anniversary of China's National Day, the diplomat congratulated Egypt for joining the BRICS, expressing confidence that such a move will boost cooperation among member states.

Several ministers, including Trade and Industry Minister Ahmed Samir, Sports Minister Ashraf Sobhi, Tourism Minister Ahmed Issa were present at the ceremony.

Over the past ten years, both Egypt and China worked for linking Belt and Road Initiative to Egypt Vision 2023 and they achieved fruitful results in this respect, he said, stressing that China is Egypt's biggest trade partner, referring to China's establishment of the tallest skyscraper in Africa and first light train.

Egypt is now number one destination for Chinese tourists, the diplomat said adding that 18 flights are being operated directly between Egypt and China per week.
