Egypt's president to urge developing states’ integration into global economy at India’s G20 Summit

CAIRO – 8 September 2023: Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi is heading to India to participate in the G20 Summit in New Delhi, where he is set to shed light on issues concerning developing countries, especially in Africa.

During the summit, President Sisi will highlight the importance of enhancing global efforts to facilitate integration of developing countries into global economy on an equitable basis, the Egyptian Presidency said in a statement on Friday.

This integration provides mutual opportunities and benefits that contribute to attracting investments and achieving economic growth and development for all parties involved, the statement added.

Sisi will also highlight the necessity to provide effective support to developing countries in order to achieve sustainable development goals amid the negative repercussions of consecutive global crises on economy, food and energy.

Additionally, the president will reaffirm the necessity that developed countries fulfill their commitments under the global agreements and mechanisms to face climate change and enable developing states to increase their reliance on renewable energy.

On the sidelines of the summit, Sisi will hold bilateral meetings with heads of state and international leaders to consult on various issues of mutual concern, the statement added.

Sisi is attending the G20 summit comes upon an invitation by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in light of the importance of Egypt’s participation in this gathering held amid an international sensitive context, the presidency affirmed.

The 18th G20 Summit in New Delhi will be held on 9-10 September with the participation of leaders of the G20 countries.

The G20 comprises Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, South Korea, Turkey, the UK and the US as well as the European Union.

Leaders of Egypt, Bangladesh, Mauritius, Netherlands, Nigeria, Oman, Singapore, Spain and the UAE are invited to the summit.

A G20 Leaders’ Declaration will be adopted at the end of the summit to clarify leaders’ commitment towards the priority issues agreed upon during the ministerial and working group meetings of the group.
