CAIRO – 6 September 2023: Egypt’s Ministry of Health and Population said on Wednesday that the average number of births has reached 5,683 births per day, 237 births every hour, 4 births every minute, and one birth every 15 seconds.
The Ministry confirmed that the population increase is a major challenge, and that the two biggest threats facing Egypt in its history are terrorism and population increase, and this challenge reduces Egypt’s chances of moving forward.
Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli started the government meeting in the New Administrative Capital Wednesday by asserting the importance of messages forwarded by President Abdel Fattah El Sisi at the inauguration of the 2023 Global Congress on Population, Health and Development.
Focusing on the overpopulation problem reflects the awareness of the state about the importance of this issue, which Madbouli called joint responsibility to strike a balance between an increase in population and development resources.
Advisor to the Head of the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics, Hussein Abdel Aziz, Said Tuesday that the birth rates in Egypt during the past three years amounted to about 2.2 million births annually, ‘which shapes nearly the population of a small country.’
In televised statements, he explained that the recent population health survey confirms that the average number of children per every single woman is 2.85, meaning that every 10 mothers give birth to 28 to 29 children.
