Egyptian president meets with security officials to discuss North Sinai's development

CAIRO – 3 September 2023: President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi held a meeting Sunday to follow up on the executive status of "comprehensive development efforts" in North Sinai, the presidency's spokesperson stated.

 

The meeting included Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli, Minister of Defense Mohamed Zaki, Chief of the General Intelligence Directorate Abbas Kamel, Minister of Interior Mahmoud Tawfik, and North Sinai Governor Mohamed Abdel Fadil Shousha.

 

As indicated by the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development, the government plans to channel investments worth LE11.6 billion in Sinai in FY2023/2024, including LE6.5 billion in public investments funded by 44.6 percent from the treasury.

 

The sectors targeted in North Sinai in specific are utilities (55 percent); constructions (10.5 percent); agriculture and land reclamation (6.4 percent); real estate (5.7 percent); and, education (5.3 percent).

 

As for South Sinai, public investments worth LE1.5 billion will be made in the sectors of education (28.1 percent); utilities (23.1 percent); water (15.4 percent); transport and storage (10.4 percent).
