Egypt extends condolences to South Africa over victims of deadly Johannesburg fire

CAIRO – 31 August 2023: Egypt has extended condolences to South Africa over the victims of a massive fire that killed and injured scores of people in Johannesburg city.

In a statement on Thursday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs extended Egypt’s sincere condolences to the families of the victims and its wishes of a speedy recovery for the injured.

Egypt also affirmed full solidarity with the government and people of South Africa in this horrific incident.

More than 70 people have died and over 50 more were wounded as a fire broke out in a building in central Johannesburg filled with scores of informal residents.
