Egypt, Japanese university cooperate to modernize agriculture in New Valley

CAIRO – 27 August 2023: Chairman of the National Authority for Remote Sensing and Space Sciences (NARSS) Islam Abou El Magd discussed with a JICA delegation the prospective joint project with Sophia University to modernize agriculture in the New Valley governorate.

The goals include accomplishing sustainable management of soil and water in Dakhla Oases' small farms, and observing the salinity level of the soil through satellite images, ground sensors, and artificial intelligence.  

The project's framework will be set during a visit by the university's delegation scheduled for September as the two sides will agree on the studies and executive measures to be carried out by each party. After the plan is approved by the funding entity, which is JICA, implementation will begin in April 2024.
