Egypt’s FM Shoukry to receive Syrian counterpart Faisal Mekdad, Tuesday

CAIRO – 14 August 2023:  Egypt’s Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry expected to receive, Tuesday, his Syrian counterpart Faisal Mekdad in Cairo, to hold a session of bilateral talks at the Foreign Ministry's headquarters, followed by participation in the meeting of the Arab Ministerial Liaison Committee on Syria.

The committee will also be meeting with Al-Mekdad, after the Ministerial meeting.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated on Monday, that Shoukry will making media statements at the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs after meeting his Syrian counterpart.

Syrian Foreign Minister Mekdad, arrived in Cairo last April, at his first ever visit to the Egyptian capital since assuming post.

The visit took place at the invitation of Shoukry, the Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement.

During their meeting, the ministers discussed strengthening bilateral relations between Egypt and Syria and the latest developments in the region and the world.

Late in February, Shoukry made his first visit to Syria where he met with Syrian President Bashar El-Assad and foreign minister Mekdad in Damascus.

Shoukry’s trip, which also included the Turkish capital, Ankara, came in the wake of the devastating 7.8 magnitude quake that hit both Syria and Turkey, killing more than 52,000 people and displacing millions.
