CAIRO – 10 August 2023: The Egyptian court of cassation upheld on Thursday death sentences for three people in the case known as “Zagazig terrorist cell” case.
Convicts in the case, which dates back to 2014, face many accusations, including killing and attempting to kill policemen and others.
The court also upheld prison sentences of 7-15 years for seven others and acquitted eight others of charges, while two convicts who were handed 15-year sentences passed away.
The Zagazig case included 30 defendants, who were accused in 2014 of joining an outlawed group that aimed at obstructing the constitution and organizing a qualitative operation room that belongs to the Muslim Brotherhood to kill policemen.
They were accused of deliberately damaging a police car by putting a bomb on its way and killing a number of people, including a policeman and a girl who happened to be passing when the bomb exploded.
