CAIRO – 9 August 2023: The Public Prosecution ordered the detention of a man for four days pending investigation on accusations of deliberately killing his wife and daughter and attempting to kill his four other children.

The man admitted committing the crime after leaving jail and explained to the prosecution his motives, the prosecution said in a statement on Wednesday shortly after the crime that took place in the populous Haram district sparked public uproar and sorrow.

The prosecution received a police report on the incident on Tuesday, which noted that the neighbors of the family discovered the crime after the wife and a daughter were killed and the four other children were stabbed.

The four injured were moved to the hospital.

The prosecution said it also found traces of fire in one of the beds in the apartment.

The prosecution said it ordered an autopsy on the deceased and is following up on the health condition of the injured to question them later.

A neighbor told the prosecution that she discovered the crime after hearing calls for help from inside the house, asserting that the accused lacked good manners and used to assault the victims.
