CAIRO – 19 July 2017: Arab League Secretary General Ahmed Abu Gheit on Wednesday denounced the Israeli violence and measures against Palestinians of Al Quds city, and especially at Al Aqsa Mosque.
In a released statement, he urged the Israeli authorities to immediately stop all these practices and show respect to the sanctity of the mosque.
He warned of the consequences of these escalatory measures which started on Friday, including restricting access of Muslims to the mosque and preventing Friday prayer inside it.
These measures violate international law for human rights which deems the right to freedom of practicing religious rites as a basic human right, said the AL chief, adding that these measures will only lead to more tension in the holy city and will also negatively affect political settlement opportunities between the Palestinian and Israeli sides.
