CAIRO – 31 July 2023: Egypt’s President of the National Council for Human Rights (NCHR), Ambassador Moshira Khattab said that the Council has finished writing the annual report for human rights status in Egypt.
She noted in televised statements, Monday that this report is the 16th in the history of the Council.
Khattab added that the new report will be different from the previous reports issued, as it comes in a different timing and a stage for the country, along with different formation of the council.
Khattab described the report as “positive”, and fully monitors the human rights situation in Egypt, pointing out that it was prepared in a participatory manner internally by members of the Council and the Technical Secretariat, without the assistance of any experts.
She pointed out that the report covers the period from 2020 to 2023, noting that it sheds light on the steps taken by the state and the efforts made by the Council, specifically through the complaints system that the Council receives.
Ambassador Khattab also expressed her pride in the Egyptians confidence in the council, and what it is accomplishing by providing great support in cooperation with the Presidential Pardon Committee, as 1,500 prisoners have been released so far.
She described the relationship of the National Council for Human Rights, with the House of Representatives and the Senate, as ‘great’, and with the various ministries as distinct, and singled out the ministries of Social Solidarity, Education, and the Interior.
