CAIRO – 27 July 2023: Egypt summoned on Thursday the Danish ambassador in Cairo in protest against recurrent acts of Quran burning.
Upon directives of Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry, Deputy Assistant Foreign Minister for North and Central Europe Yasser Hashem summoned the Danish ambassador in Cairo to inform her of Egypt's condemnation of the recurrent acts of burning copies of the holy Quran in front of headquarters of foreign missions in Denmark, the latest of which took place in front of the Egyptian Embassy in Copenhagen on July 25, said Foreign Ministry spokesman Ahmed Abu Zeid.
The Egyptian diplomat renewed Egypt's call on the Danish authorities to take necessary measures to avoid the recurrence of such provocative acts.
He denounced as "a disgraceful act" the burning of copies of the Quran or any other holy text, saying such acts trigger off feelings and anger among followers of different religions.
The repetition of such annoying acts constitutes a flagrant violation of freedom of belief and religious practices and totally contravene international charters and conventions, the diplomat added.
He noted that these shameful practices contradict with efforts to enhance inter-cultural dialogue as well as interaction among peoples with different religions, beliefs and cultures.
