CAIRO - 27 July 2023: The Egyptian population growth rate declined to about 1.69% in 2023, compared to 1.72% in 2022, according to the Financial, Economic, and Investment Affairs Committee of the Egyptian Senate, chaired by lawmaker Hani Sary El-Din, Youm7 reported.

Based on this data from the economic and social development plan document for the new fiscal year 2023/2024 presented by Minister of Planning Hala Al-Saeed, the Populationen of Egypt is expected to reach 108 million people by FY 23/24.

The document indicated that population growth eats up the outcomes of the state’s development efforts, and “with it, citizens do not feel a real improvement in their standard of living.”

According to Assistant Prime Minister of Egypt and Head of the Information and Decision Support Center in the Council of Ministers Osama El-Gohary, Egypt's population has doubled over the past few decades, propelling the country to the 14th position globally in terms of population size.

El-Gohary's remarks came during his address at the "Intellectual Forum" organized by the Information Center in the Egyptian Council of Ministers. The event focused on the demographic transformations in Egypt and their impact on economic growth.

"Today's world is grappling with the struggle of demographic changes due to rapid population growth, imposing formidable challenges that threaten economic growth," El Gohary stated.

President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi stated in June that the population increase had significantly impacted the country's development efforts. "We reached 40 million people during the era of the late President Anwar El-Sadat, then we became 80 million in 2011, and today we are 105 million," El-Sisi said, pointing to the rapid surge in the country's population over the years.

On May 26, 2023, the Egyptian population increased by about 220,000 people in 55 days, making the total number of people living domestically 104,971,000, the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) reported.
