CAIRO - 26 July 2023: President Abdel Fattah El Sisi will head to St. Petersburg to participate in the second Russia-Africa Summit.
In statements on Wednesday, Presidential Spokesman Ahmed Fahmi said that the first Russia-Africa Summit was held in Russia's Sochi city on October 23–24, 2019, under Egypt's presidency of the African Union.
The summit aims at strengthening ties between African countries and Russia and promoting consultations between the two sides on means of facing common challenges, the spokesman said.
He further said this year's edition of the summit will include holding two general sessions, also a final communiqué will be issued at the end of the summit.
Several economic, trade and culture activities, topped by Russia–Africa Economic and Humanitarian Forum will be held on the sidelines of the summit, he added.
President Sisi is also scheduled to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin on promoting bilateral relations at all levels, in light of deeply-rooted ties between Egypt and Russia and within the framework of continued consultations on regional and international issues of mutual interest, the spokesman concluded.
