New Republic is the fruit of unprecedented challenges in Egypt: Sisi on 1952 Revolution anniv.

CAIRO – 23 July 2023: President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi has highlighted Egypt’s march toward the “New Republic,” in a speech to mark the 71st anniversary of the 23rd of July Revolution, 1952.

“The new republic is the fruit of an unprecedented phase of difficulties and challenges in the history of Egypt,” Sisi said in a recorded speech on Sunday.

He praised the July revolution, saying it established the first republic 70 years ago and has stepped toward a “New Egypt” at the time.

Sisi added that the revolution has made significant strides in empowering peasants and workers.

However, he affirmed that the state has sought to establish the “New Republic” amid the major events and instability that the country experienced from 2011 to 2014.

“Seventy years after the founding of the Republic amid changing nature and challenges over time and with the country passing through major historical events from 2011 to 2014 and experiencing a difficult period of chaos and instability that threatened the very existence of the state and the capabilities of the Egyptian people, it was necessary to think seriously about the future and the New Republic,” Sisi stated.

Sisi stressed that the values of the New Republic are based on the priority of protecting the nation amid an international and regional situation with unprecedented and increasing complexity.

“The New Republic seeks to provide equal opportunities of work and decent life for this generation as well as the future generations and to build national capacities in all fields so that Egypt reaches the aspired place,” he stated.

Sisi congratulated Egyptians on the revolution anniversary, paying tribute to late presidents Mohamed Naguib, Gamal Abdel Nasser and Mohamed Anwar El-Sadat.

The 23 July Revolution in 1952 was led by the Free Officers movement that included Abdel Nasser, Naguib and Sadat, toppling King Farouk to abolish the monarchy and declare Egypt a republic.
