Egypt's Forsa Programme collaborates with civil society to fund over 11K micro enterprises

CAIRO – 18 July 2023: Assistant to the Minister of Social Solidarity Mervat Sabrin signed Monday 29 contracts and four cooperation protocols with civil society to complete the third phase of Forsa Programme aimed at creating 50,000 jobs through micro enterprises.

 

The programme, which is targeted at the beneficiaries of Egypt's monetary subsidies programme Takaful w Karama, is implemented in collaboration with the World Bank.  The third phase includes the governorates of Fayoum, Beni Suef, Menya, Asyut, Sohag, Luxor, Qalyoubiyah, and Sharqia.

 

The contracts with 23 associations and NGOs would provide 11,391 beneficiaries with LE242 million worth of funding as well as training.

 

As for the cooperation protocols, two are aimed at 240 beneficiaries in Aswan's Kom Ombo and Edfu to produce date powder, dried tomatoes, garments, palm products, as well as carry out recycling of palm waste. The other two are targeted at capacity-building and employment in Luxor and Beni Suef.
