CAIRO – 18 July 2023: Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Ambassador Ahmed Abou Zeid said Monday in a TV interview that the United States was keen on supporting an economic transition in Egypt, socio-economic development, as well as holding consultations on different regional affairs.
The ambassador pointed out that Egypt had a significant weight on the regional and global scales, and that the United States would be fulfilling many interests by consolidating its relations with the country. He asserted that the ties between the two states are strong, strategic, and extended for long decades.
The foreign ministry's spokesperson added that the United States had been an integral economic and developmental partner to Egypt, which reflects the latter's eagerness for ties with that super power that is involved in several world affairs.
Ambassador Abou Zeid expressed reassurance about the course of U.S.-Egyptian relations. Yet, he demanded investing more in those ties using different and diverse means, which had already begun.
The ambassador underscored that although the U.S. had been withdrawing from the Middle East, the U.S.-Egyptian relations were being maintained and developed. With regard to the U.S. priorities in the decision-making process, Abou Zeid said that they were shaped by the global scene, polarization ensued from the Russia-Ukraine War, rise of global powers such as China, India and Brazil, as well as internal affairs.
