CAIRO - 16 July 2023: President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi of Egypt met with President William Ruto of Kenya on Sunday in Nairobi, amid his participation in the mid-year coordination summit of the African Union.
Ahmed Fahmy, the official spokesperson for the Egyptian Presidency, stated that the Kenyan president warmly welcomed President Sisi's visit to Nairobi. He appreciated the strong friendship and fraternal ties that unite the two nations. Ruto expressed his immense respect for Egypt, its people, and its leadership.
He acknowledged the broad prospects for developing relations and boosting the frameworks of joint cooperation between Egypt and Kenya, and in enhancing joint African action in a manner contributing to the achievement of the desired sustainable development for the continent's countries and peoples. He also emphasized the stimulation of efforts towards achieving integration and continental coherence at all levels.
On his part, President Sisi affirmed the excellence of bilateral relations connecting Egypt with its sister country, Kenya. He emphasized the importance he attaches to coordination and consultation with President Ruto regarding African issues with the aim of pushing efforts for integration, preserving peace and security, and promoting the development agenda at the level of the African continent.
This is embodied in the intensity of communications and bilateral meetings between the two presidents in recent times, the last of which was last month at the COMESA Summit in Zambia and then in Paris on the sidelines of the "New Global Financing Charter" summit.
The spokesperson added that the meeting between the two presidents addressed ways to enhance bilateral relations. In addition to discussing a number of regional and continental issues, including the situations in the Horn of Africa and the Nile Basin, and the crisis in Sudan.
Coordination efforts aimed at resolving the crisis were discussed, including the Sudan Neighbouring Countries Summit, held in Egypt on July 13th, which complements other regional efforts aimed at ending the conflict and transitioning to peaceful dialogue in a manner that achieves the interests of the fraternal Sudanese people.
