CAIRO – 14 July 2023: Jordan, Oman and Yemen have welcomed the final communique of Sudan Neighboring States’ Summit in Cairo, which called for a comprehensive solution to the crisis in Sudan.

In a statement on Thursday, Jordan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates welcomed the final communique that was delivered by President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and affirmed the need to preserve the Sudanese state and its institutions.

The communique also called for preventing the fragmentation of Sudan and affirmed full respect for the Sudanese sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity and non-interference in the country’s internal affairs, the Jordanian ministry said.

“The ministry has affirmed the Kingdom’s support to all efforts aiming to resolve the Sudanese crisis, praising the efforts of the Arab Republic of Egypt in organizing this summit,” the statement said.

Jordan also expressed hope that these efforts result in resolving the Sudanese crisis and stopping the fighting and enhancing political and economic security and stability in Sudan in a way that fulfills the aspirations of Sudan’s people.

For its part, Oman’s Foreign Ministry has expressed support to the outcomes of the summit, appreciating Sisi’s efforts in holding this meeting in support of the efforts aiming at reaching a comprehensive and sustainable peaceful solution to the Sudanese crisis.

The Yemeni Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates also welcomed the communique and stressed Yemen’s support to all efforts seeking to restore security and stability in Sudan.

Yemen also hailed Sisi’s efforts in hosting the summit that sought to stop the bloodshed among Sudanese people and fulfill their aspirations in achieving peace and decent life.

The summit, hosted by the Egyptian capital on Thursday with the participation of the heads of state and governments of Egypt, the Central African Republic, Chad, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Libya and South Sudan, comes three months after the clashes erupted between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

The acting government of Sudan, the Transitional Sovereign Council and the RSF have all welcomed the outcomes of the summit.

The leaders at the summit agreed to form a ministerial mechanism comprised of foreign ministers of Sudan’s neighboring states to coordinate common efforts to resolve the current conflict.

The ministerial mechanism shall hold its first meeting in N’Djamena, Chad, and will be mandated to develop an action-plan that includes practical steps towards stopping the fighting.

The action-plan will seek to reach a comprehensive solution to the crisis through direct communication with various Sudanese parties in complementarity with the existing mechanisms, including the IGAD and AU.

The leaders also reiterated the importance of preserving the Sudanese State and its institutions and stressed the utmost priority of formulating a comprehensive approach to addressing the current crisis and its humanitarian ramifications.

Moreover, the leaders called on the international community to step up efforts to provide crucial humanitarian aid and to address urgent shortages in food and medical supplies in Sudan.

They also agreed to facilitate the entry of humanitarian aid provided to Sudan through the territories of neighboring states, in coordination with relevant international agencies and organizations.
