CAIRO - 14 July 2023: The Egyptian Antiquities Protection Law prohibits being in an archaeological site or museum without obtaining a permit, and it also prohibits climbing an antiquity without obtaining a permit.
And according to Article 45 bis of the Antiquities Protection Law, amended by Law No. 20 of 2020, a penalty of imprisonment for a period of no less than one month, and a fine of no less than ten thousand pounds, and no more than one hundred thousand pounds, or one of these two penalties, shall be imposed on anyone who is found in an archaeological site or Museums, without obtaining a permit, as well as those who climbed an antiquity without obtaining a permit to do so.
Article 45 bis of the Antiquities Protection Law stipulates that the penalty shall be doubled if the two aforementioned acts are accompanied by an immoral act.
The Antiquities Protection Law aims, with this penalty, to criminalize some phenomena.
