CAIRO - 13 July 2023: Cairo Governorate will organize the “Cairo Marathon” on Friday, which is the largest sporting event that takes place in the governorate.
Major General Khaled Abdel-Al, Governor of Cairo, confirmed that this marathon comes within the framework of the governorate’s celebrations of its 1054th National Day, indicating that it will include a running, cycling race and motorbikes.
The Governor of Cairo added that the starting point of the marathon will be from the Yasser Rizk axis, passing through the Taha Hussein Bridge and ending at the Museum of Egyptian Civilization. He added that this path was chosen to encourage young people to practice sports and introduce them to one of the giant achievements that the state has established in record time to facilitate the movement of vehicles, shorten time and limit fuel consumption to improve air quality.
The Cairo governorate celebrates its national day, which coincides with the 1054th anniversary of its founding by the leader Jawhar al-Sikli in 969 AD during the reign of the Fatimid caliph al-Muizz li Din Allah on July 6, 969 AD.
Cairo includes Pharaonic, Roman, Byzantine, Coptic and Islamic monuments that made it a charming city that attracts tourists to visit.
